Every birth is a cause for celebration – but one in ten babies has medical needs at birth that are so serious that they need intensive care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Last year, one out of every eight babies born in Austin, Texas, arrived too soon. Still more were born who required advanced medical care for other reasons. Advancements in neonatal care have improved outcomes for this growing population, but parents of these medically fragile infants require support, information and ongoing education to ensure the best outcome for the baby and the entire family unit.
For the Love of Babies Awards are given annually to medical professionals who touch the lives of those who struggle with conception, complications during pregnancy, a neonatal intensive care unit stay or loss of a baby. Honorees represent the fields of fertility, obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics, mental health, and pediatric therapy.
