Why should your child be recognized as “Preemie of the Year”?

Lea was born a fighter. At 29 weeks gestation, she entered this world at a mere one pound, fourteen ounces. She was much smaller than a baby should be at that age, but her tiny stature in no way hindered her fighting spirit. After only a week, Lea was able to breathe on her own without an oxygen canula, and she continued to make big strides up until her 64th day in the NICU, in which we were finally able to bring our tiny miracle home. Since her homecoming, Lea continues to amaze us. She is right on track with her development thanks to weekly therapy visits, and she is the happiest baby I’ve ever met. I am so lucky to have this little blessing in my life, for she has changed my world for the better, and has helped me develop an amazing relationship with our Lord.

Using three or more typical characteristics of a Super Hero, please describe your child.

Strong – from the day she was born to now, as those little legs jump in her bouncer, my girl has always been incredibly strong, both physically and in spirit.

Happy – I live for those gummy grins… and she gives out a ton of them.

Dazzling – A man recently used this adjective to describe her as he passed, and I think its fitting. Those big blue eyes do dazzle, I must say!

What advice do you have for future NICU parents?

Learn everything you possibly can about your baby in the NICU. Ask a lot of questions. Ask them again if you forget. Be hands on, but also remember to take time for yourself. It is so important to keep yourself healthy in this process. Remain faithful. Pray.
