Why should your children be recognized as “Preemies of the Year”?
At 21 weeks pregnant, my water broke. The doctor told us that we could terminate the pregnancy if we wanted and listed the many problems that could occur if we continued. We had our faith in God and wanted to do whatever to save our babies. There was nothing medically they could do until we reached 23 weeks. We were asking God for a miracle and prayers went up all over the U.S.! Everyday I was pregnant we celebrated as a big day!! At 24 weeks and 2 days, our miracles arrived. Kyla (Baby A) came out kicking, crying and had her eyes wide open. She seemed too little to do that, but she didn’t think so. Kyndal (Baby B) was intubated at birth, but if sister can breathe then she can do it, too and was off of the vent within 4 hours. Kyndal was born second but was the first one to come home! These miracles babies had no surgeries, no complications and came home, one on their due date and the other a week later. Today they are right on target developmentally and on the growth charts for their age. I can only smile when I see Kicking Kyla throwing a big strongwilled baby fit because I know that her fighting spirit kept her alive and she can keep kicking with that strong will! We were so impressed when Kan Kan Kyndal was not crawling and then she just got up and crawled and then 2 weeks later she started walking!! She knows she can do anything with God giving her strength.
Using three or more typical characteristics of a Super Hero, please describe your child.
Strength – Kyndal and Kyla are not only strong in spirit but also physically too they surprise us every day with what they can do!
Intelligence – You can just look at these miracles and see their minds at work. They’ve always had to act older than their actual age!
Beauty – I can remember looking at my sweet girls when they were born and all I could think or say was that they are beautiful and they get more beautiful every day!!
What advice do you have for future NICU parents?
Be patient. My preemies twins seem to do things in their time and it’s okay. It will work out later!
Speak up and advocate for your child while in the NICU and beyond. You know your child better than anyone!

That is a great story. It gives me great hope for my two little ones. Thank you for sharing!
