Amy’s Birth Story

July 24, 2013

Hi, my name is Amy and I found out I was pregnant in January and that I was about three in a half months already so I received late prenatal care. I had all the tests and ultrasounds done and everything came back great every time and I was being seen once every two weeks.

Well early morning on April 29th at 2:30 in the morning at 32 weeks pregnant I started having extreme cramps that were constant and no one thought about it being labor but I went to my two week check that morning and not long after I was being told to get to the hospital because I was in labor and already 5cms .
We got to labor and delivery where they told me they couldn’t stop the labor but only.slow it down and give our baby girl enough time to get some meds to her.

The night of April 29th at 7:22 we welcomed our little girl Alexis LeeAnn to the world at 4 lbs 2 ozs and 17inches. She was in respiratory distress so after a few photo ops she was taken straight to the nicu where she was till she was just a few days shy of a being a more the old and was able to come home. She came home on oxygen and came off that on her due date of June 21st! And is now 8lbs 22 1/2 inches! And such a strong happy little girl and we couldn’t be happier.

Having a baby in the nicu and being that she is my first it took a very hard toll on me. I would cry every night and I’d get so angry and depressed being so far away from her. We live about 30 mins away from the hospital she was born at so it was pretty hard not being close but I made that drive everyday to be with her even though people thought I was crazy bit they just didn’t understand how hard it was leaving your baby and it being my first in the nicu and living so far from the hospital. Having a Preemie has been a challenge but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
