Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in a support group?
When you join a support group, we’ll have a short intro where attendees can introduce themselves – or not – and then the Family Support Specialist will open the floor for anyone to share or ask questions. In some cases, the host may have a topic in mind to cover.
Do I have to participate?
Your participation is up to you and your comfort level. Camera on or camera off, YOU choose whether you want to participate or just join and listen.
Where are support groups hosted?
Hand to Hold uses Zoom, a third party vendor, to host support groups. Hand to Hold enables all security features to ensure privacy and will does not record any part of these confidential groups. It is our responsibility to inform you that virtual support is not as secure as having in-person interactions. Any breach on Zoom’s behalf is out of Hand to Hold’s control.
By registering, you acknowledge you have been informed of the risks of communicating virtually and you agree to hold Hand to Hold harmless from any disruptions or breach during your participation.
All Zoom meetings will lock 15 minutes after start time, to secure the group to only those registered.
How do I use Zoom?
Read more about how to join Zoom.
Can I join from my phone? Laptop?
Yes! You can join from your phone OR your laptop.
What if I can’t come to the group I signed up for?
That’s okay! Feel free to join us for a future group that works with your schedule.
Do I have to attend every week?
Not at all. Attend whichever days and times work best for you.
Are the groups private?
Absolutely. Conversations are confidential and are not shared beyond the group.
Is there a cost to attend?
Virtual support groups and 1-to-1 appointments are FREE!
Is this considered therapy?
No. Hand to Hold’s Support Groups and 1-to-1 appointments are considered a form of peer support. While our Family Support Specialists are trained Certified Mental Health Peer Specialists, they are not licensed therapists.
