NICU Heroes Award

NICU Heroes AwardNICU families often struggle with the words to appropriately thank neonatal professionals for the difference they made in the lives of their children.  The NICU Heroes Award, presented by Mead Johnson Nutrition and Hand to Hold, recognizes NICU professionals for their compassion and dedication to improving outcomes not only for medically fragile babies but the entire family.

Parents/guardians of children who have been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for any reason are invited to submit a nomination for their favorite neonatal health care professional by May 27, 2013. The winner will be announced July 29, 2013. (This announcement was originally scheduled for July 22.) Read the terms of participation. How to Nominate

The 2013 nomination period for parents to nominate a favorite neonatal health professional for a NICU Heroes Award ended May 27, 2013. If you missed the deadline this year, apply next year!  NICU parents were asked to fill out a short nomination and include their story (500 word limit) about how a NICU staff member stands out for making their time or their child/ren’s time in the NICU easier.

Nominees will be notified via email of their nomination and will be directed to a website to provide supporting information for judging, including answers to three questions, their latest curriculum vitae, and the name of a colleague who will provide a letter of recommendation. Supplemental information is due from health professionals by June 17, 2013.

Judging will be done by a panel of practicing NICU healthcare professionals and parent-leaders of NICU support organizations.

Prizes

All nominees will receive a Certificate of Nomination in recognition of their achievement and a copy of the parent’s essay, which shares the heartwarming difference their work made for their child/ren and family.

The NICU Heroes Award Winner will receive the following:

  • A trophy and certificate, presented at the winner’s hospital,
  • A $2,500 donation made in their honor to the pediatric healthcare charity of their choice*, and
  • A one-year subscription to the Hand to Hold NICU Resource Library for the winner’s hospital.
